It's another cold and rainy June day (yes) and I'm stuck inside. Episode 9 isn't quite finished yet, so for shits and frowns I'm putting up a tape of an old radio show Lentz and I had in late '93-early '94 called (for some reason) Rhomboid House of Science, which broadcast from WRUV here in Burlington during random late nights and one Thanksgiving Day. Lentz is 18 here and I'm 20. Being more of a free-form music maelstrom utilizing four turntables, two tape decks, an 8-track cart, two CD players and three microphones, it gets pretty crazy at times. It was certainly the spark of what has since become known as Late Night Freakouts at The Bunny (Google it) and definitely this here Cool & Shiny show. I distinctly remember working as an usher at the Nickelodeon Movie Theatre on a slow day and wandering into random flicks while listening to this on my Sony Walkman and thinking we were some sort of geniuses. You think all kinds of silly things when you're 20 years old, I guess. Anyway, there's Butthole Surfers, Sonic Youth, Half Japanese, Iggy Pop, Daniel Johnston, Flaming Lips, Galaxie 500, Rocket From The Crypt, etc. Basically all the same shit we're still playing today. Oh, well.
