I gave this mixtape to my friend Kat thirty years ago today: June 15, 1990. It was at the end of my sophomore year and she would soon be leaving for college. This tape is tinny (those fancy Capsule cassettes were no Maxell XL-IIs, that's for sure) and more than a little pretentious (it's called "Peripheral Post Cold War Politics"), but it's kinda fun, too. I had taped the Pixies' "Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf)" off of WRUV but didn't know who it was (it didn't sound like the Pixies) so I just called it "The Ocean". I was also obsessed with "sex, lies, and videotape" and Negativland. Fortunately, the RHCP and U2 tunes aren't too embarrassing, but the Jim Morrison bits and "Fame '90" are. Anyway, if you wanna know what it was like to be me at 16 and fresh outta the 80s, here you go.

I'd choose this over Spotify any day.
