'96 Mixtape (Post-War Products)

More '90s mixtape madness for ya. I made this one for my friend Maya while she was away at Wesleyan. In January '96 I was living in an apartment in one of the shittier areas of town. It was one of those places where the kitchen is carpeted. We had nearly zero furniture and the heat barely worked. I slept in the living room because it was too cold in my own. I remember air-drumming to The Melvins' Houdini trying to generate some heat. The neighbors upstairs were white trash kids who were astonishingly loud, even for my 22-year-old ass. At one point they were literally just stomping so loud and intensely we thought the ceiling was going to crack open. We gave up and moved out after a month. I spent the last night there sleeping on the floor next to the heater. I went to Uncommon Grounds Coffee at 6:00 AM and realized I should get a job there. Somehow my mail was never forwarded from that place and I never received my tax refund, though the IRS insisted it had been cashed. Suddenly homeless and super-broke. Bad times.

Somehow through all of this I made this tape. There's GBV, JSBX, lots of Shimmy-Disc, and wayyyyy too much 60s kitsch (Las Vegas Grind, Esquivel). It's very typical mid-90s indie-rock hipster shit, for sure. Enjoy!
